Biography

Bio

Esther Gronenborn is an award-winning filmmaker and visual artist based near Berlin. After a successful international film career (alaska.de, Ich werde nicht schweigen, Das weiße Schweigen), she has, in recent years, expanded her practice into visual and media art.

Working with photography, digital collage, and AI-generated video installations, she explores the boundaries between reality and imagination, memory and transformation. Her visual works integrate cinematic language – such as time manipulation, symbolic layering, and narrative tension – into digital media and image synthesis. In late 2024, she began presenting her visual work to the public through exhibitions.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Europe, and her AI-based films are presented internationally.

She is a member of the German and European Film Academies, the International Artist Foundation and the BBVK. She co-founded the equality initiatives Pro Quote Regie and Pro Quote Film.

Artistic Focus

Photographic collage, painterly image construction, and AI-based video installations. Her work explores perception, image construction, and shifting boundaries between reality and fabrication, often through landscapes marked by ecological loss, temporal dislocation, and emotional distance.
